Born Paul David Hewson, Bono's musical legacy is from his front man status in the Irish pop-rock band U2. Known as a singer, poet, activist and performer, he embodies the socially conscious rock star, decked out in tinted wraparound shades while addressing the United Nations. Bono plays the front man role to a tee, with a sweeping ability to rock out huge arenas and gi-normous venues with power and grace. His childhood growing up in Dublin instilled in him a sense of awareness, and he bridged the Protestant/Catholic debate, which fueled a lot of his lyrics as did the death of his mother when Bono was 14. He's been endearingly married to his high school sweetheart since 1982. He also met his band mates in high school, and the rest, as they say, is history.
