What’s in a name? A lot, apparently. For Blue Water Highway Band, their name is their origin story. This specific highway is symbolic of the meeting of two states: Texas and Louisiana. While someone from elsewhere in the country might rope these two states into the same bunch, they actually have very different musical histories that come together in Blue Water Highway’s music.
Blue Water Highway Band have created a unique brand of contemporary folk-rock. The style might be classic but their approach to song writing is a modern invention. With beautiful vocal harmonies, thoughtful but simply said lyrics, and even some synth sounds, each song is set-up to be better than the last. They use these tools to entertain but also express, a fine line that this band rides perfectly.
Blue Water’s music lives in a place where memories are perpetually considered; where the past dictates the future in a clear and present way. Contemplations on old, lost loves, are followed up by enough wishful thinking to fill the present moment with that same amount of love. Even when love is lost, some residuals hang around waiting for something to return and put everything back together. You’ll find heartbreak and loss in this session, but you’ll also find more fun and celebration than you would expect.
Ralph White is an American treasure. He first came on the music scene back in 1990 in Austin, TX. with his trio the Bad Livers. You can hear folk, blues, and Cajun influences in his songs. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist instantly puts you back to a simpler time with a pluck of his banjo or a squeeze of the accordion. This is real roots music.
Fiona’s smoky but sweet voice is powerful and demands attention. Her latest LP “Little Thunder,” is a spin on a classic sound but reworked with Fiona’s own edge. Dig into this session where blues meets soul, and rock and roll is not a dirty word.
Kosha Dillz got his start back in the late 90’s in the underground battle rap scene but he did not release his debut “Chainsaw Music” until 2005. Since then Kosha has been one of the few guys making a name for Jewish rappers along side his longtime collaborator and friend Matisyahu. Check out their latest collaboration “dodging bullets” or select Kosha Dillz as your players next time you are having an NBA 2K11 session.
